Simone & Alex | Wedding

This past weekend we got to chill with Simone and Alex on their wedding day. Now, as a wedding photographer there are a lot of skills you need. Beyond the regular technical mumbo jumbo it requires to operate the camera, you need to be able to fluff dresses, fix hair, act as a psychologist, yell extremely loudly when you are dealing with a large family portrait, and a million other things. It’s quite the job! But with this group there was a whole other special set of skills that was required. Namely, an extensive knowledge of the movies Anchorman, Napoleon Dynamite, Zoolander, and Austin Powers. Luckily for me I had just recently re-watched Anchorman the week before this wedding, so I was totally prepared. We’re good like that :)

Anyway, let’s check out their wedding day, shall we?

Spiderman calendar? Kickass.

I can just imagine Alex thinking “Yeah. I look gooooood.”

Now don’t even get me started on this picture. You’ve already seen what happens when I get excited about an image (i.e. rambling and babbling). I mean, how could you ever describe this picture and do it justice with words? Man, I love it.

Ditto to this picture. Simone’s grandpa, waiting for the ceremony to start.

Simone and her dad walking down the aisle. Once again, I’ll just let it speak for itself.

The ceremony was at the Chateau Louis Conference Center. It was a pretty gloomy day (that means good lighting for us!), but I’m totally serious that at one point, I think as they were saying their vows, the sun poked out and it was glorious.

Newlyweds in the strictest sense of the term.

Now this was wicked awesome. We got to do their pictures at Telus Field!!! Huzzah! For the record, they both LOVE baseball, which is why this was such a perfect place to go.

Then we headed to the Museum grounds for some more classic style pictures. Oh, there are 10 other bridal parties here? No worries, we’ll just chill in a remote location near the parking lot and get wicked pictures anyway. ;)

Now this is where my Anchorman knowledge kicked in. I told them all that they were to act as though they were “in a glass case of emotion”….I think I won their hearts at that moment ;)

Then it was back to the Chateau Louis for the reception. Here’s a definite contender for coolest cake of the year.

The whole day there was this huge (and I mean huge) wooden crate kicking around. We knew it was the gift from Simone’s dad, but no one knew what it was. Well, during the reception he pulled it out. BEST PRESENT EVER!!!! As soon as we got home Rob was online looking for one. A tandem bike!!!

Clearly this was a funny day all around, and it just never stopped. We finally got the couple together to do the cake cutting, and as soon as they go to make the first cut, the knife snaps!!! Look closely where the blade connects to the handle, you can see it in mid-snap. They ended up using the cake server as a knife, way to go guys!

An incredibly cute shot from the father-daughter dance

And even though we were only there for the first bit of the dance, naturally we would get some craziness out of this bunch

Simone, Alex, bridal party - you all rocked our world. Thanks for such an amazing day, it was way too much fun to be considered work.

Cheers,
Lauren
